What Is The Best Coil For Cloud Chasing?
Cloud chasing is a super fun thing to do, luckily we have the best coil for cloud chasing right here! Face it sometimes when you are a traditional vaper and you see someone chuck up a massive cloud from their vape, you can’t help but say “I want that”. Well it’s your lucky day, because we’re going to show you just how to whip up a massive cloud very soon.
The best coils for cloud chasing is the clapton coil, parallel dual coil, fused clapton, twisted coils, and for tank users, any mesh/sub ohm coil.
First off lets take a look at our coils:
Parallel Dual Coil
Sub Ohming 101
and now onto the breakdown…
The Clapton Coil!
The clapton coil is without a doubt the best coil for cloud chasing and there’s a good reason for that. Clapton coils have become a staple in the vape industry and newcomer rda users have clung to them very easily. Clapton coils are pretty simple to make at home and they are also readily available for a descent price on the web.
The clapton coil is one strand of wire with another higher gauge wire wrapped around you core wire then turned into a coil. Clapton coils have slots in them which will hold juice more effectively increasing not only flavor but cloud production. Juice gets trapped into those crevices so when your fire button is pressed, it instantly melts that juice first along with the juice stuck in your cotton giving you one crazy chunk of vapor production.
Now the type of wire does have a big impact as well as how low or how high you build your coil will fluctuate depending on the wire used. When we build our clapton coils we used N80 as our core and wrapped it with a 36 gauge Kanthal A1 wire. You will have to experiment with what you like but we found these 2 wires together along with a few wraps to get our coil down to .10 was right in the money. The flavor was great and it definitely in our opinion is the best coil for cloud chasing.
It should however be noted that you can typically use any wire to build clapton coils as each wire has their pros and cons but we will save that for another day. Let’s continue our cloud blowing journey!
When we stated we used N80 as our core wire, we used it because there is very little ramp up. We wanted clouds and we wanted them now and that’s just what N80 wire delivers, now add a very thin strand of kanthal which doesn’t have a huge wind up time to begin with and it will definitely tear up some flavor/clouds very quickly.
If you’re the type of person that doesn’t want to spin up some wires, then check out vandy vapes quality clapton wire spools. Simply order it, wrap your coils and you’re good to go! The price is great for a 5-25′ spool and it will save you a ton of money versus buying pre made clapton coils.
Parallel Dual Coils!
You’ve probably heard that when it comes to coil building, simpler is better for clouds and flavor, and if you’re a mech user, this is very important for you. Simple coils that are perfect twins and built in a simplistic manner eliminate “ramp up” time which will produce vapor more and faster.
The best wire to use in this situation is going to be N80 wire. Now this does tend to have lower resistances versus regular kanthal so it works great on mechanical mods, but it’s also an excellent alternative for your regulated devices as well.
Setting your build up at around .05-.1 is typically the best way to produce your dual coils. Roughly 4 wraps on each side and make sure they are parallel with the N80 wire and you will eliminate ramp up very quickly. When the fire button is pressed it should no longer take a second or 2 to warm up and produce those big thick clouds.
Instead the response should almost be instant giving you on crazy kick in the throat and chucking a massive cloud on command.
Another clapton coil is here to deliver your cloud chasing dreams. This time though this coil is fused. The fused clapton is considered by many to be the best coil for cloud chasing only if it’s built correctly. Fused claptons are the same as traditional claptons but instead the wire is fused together.
This essentially means that instead of having 1 wire straight with another wire wrapped around, it’s 1 strip folded in half making 2 stripes and then adding another wire around it. Once again though it’s all in the build.
You need to make sure both of your coils are the exact same and we recommend using a N80 core with a high gauge (36-40) kanthal wire to wrap around it. This will prevent the coil from heating up to quickly and will allow you to stabilize your build so it isn’t insanely low.
However the return on it is absolutely amazing. It will literally be instant clouds on command and the flavor as well will be an additional bonus for you. You will get excellent vapor production and incredible flavor all in one package.
It should be noted as well you can purchase pre-built variants like the triple fused wotofo coils that are .17 each coil. Or if you want to save a couple of bucks and just make them yourself, they do sell ready to go fused clapton wire as well all over. We recommend the wotofo coils or the wire over at lightning vapes.
Twisted coils are great alternative. They are highly over looked and while they are not the best coil for cloud chasing, they are simple and easy to make and relatively cheap/reliable. 2 wires twisted together tightly is much easier than wrapping wire over another strand making them stick out for new users.
Twisted coils to pack a punch and have incredible ramp up speeds when using Kanthal and N80 wires. When using a twisted coil it is best to stay away from stainless steel which tends to have low resistance but also has incredibly high ramp up time.
Twisted coils to produce a ton of clouds though and that’s because of how simple they are. As we stated before the simpler the build the better. This is because you want your coils to have the least amount of ramp up time as possible so when you click your button it instantly goes to work chucking out those clouds.
Twisted coils are also relatively cheaper compared to claptons because of how much easier they are to make. They do lack a little bit on the flavor side, but if you need a good cheap cloud on command. The twisted coil might just be the one for you!
For You Tank Users!
Just because you don’t have a RDA doesn’t mean you can’t start chucking clouds! There are many new tanks on the market these days and sub ohming is an absolute beast for chasing clouds out of a tank. Simply getting a sub ohm tank will get you on your journey to chase massive clouds.
The best coil for cloud chasing in tanks is definitely any sub ohm coil. These things have no ramp up time typically in a tank and when you press the fire button you should instantly notice the difference versus a traditional tank. Now you might be asking, which tank should I get. We have a couple of them we highly recommend which we will now go over!
This bad boy is such a simple little tank and has excellent coils to go with it. This is a pure sub ohm tank that was crafted beautifully and makes cloud blowing super simple for you tank users. The Uwell Nunchaku has the option for .4 ohm and .25 ohm coils that will fit in the tank.
We tested both and if you are running lower wattages we recommend the .4 ohm coils. If you are a higher wattage vaper, then we will recommend the .25 ohm coils for it! These coils are phenomenal and do last a significant amount of time allowing you to not only have longer coil life, but chuck some massive clouds as well!
Fireluke Mesh PRO!
Freemax had the standard fireluke mesh which was an excellent tank! However their new catastrophic tank that hit the market not too long ago is the fireluke mesh pro. This thing is huge, packs a ton of flavor and cloud production and is a mesh themed sub ohm tank. The tank has options of a single, double, triple, and now even a quad mesh coil that you can install in the tank.
Many people have turned to this tank for cloud production which is how it eventually got it’s nickname the “leafblower”
This is a good budget tank for you vaper’s out there that want quick and insane clouds.
Another incredibly popular tank is the Horizon Tech Falcon Tank. This is another mesh themed tank that is super simple, but super powerful. Now while this one doesn’t have near as many coil options as the Mesh Pro, this thing is something special that you would just have to experience to understand.
This tank hits hard and it hits fast, which is everything you need for cloud blowing. In our opinion the Falcon Tank has the best coil for cloud chasing in a tank. It is an absolute monster with it’s mesh coils and their tank/coils offer an intense flavor sensation as well.
The key note to take away from this article is simple, simpler is better. Cloud blowing all revolves around resistances and ramp up times in the vaping industry. Keep your builds as simplistic as possible and get yourself down in those readings and crank your wattages up.
It may take some time for you to get used to all that vapor production, but once you get used to the clouds and flavor, it’s something you will never want to get rid of!
